Violin and Piano Instruction
&
Lecture Demonstrations
My teaching philosophy as a violin teacher is encouraging, energetic, probing, and solution-oriented. My ultimate goal is to develop a student’s unique voice. The achievement of this goal requires the intersection of many different musical “muscles”: technical development, ear-training, historical understanding, music theory, and the translation of meaningful personal experiences into convincing musical performance. As there exists no one proper execution or interpretation of the individual strands, there therefore exists no one intersection of these strands. I thus suggest many possible approaches and multiplicities of meaning appropriate to the students’ level of development, and encourage my students to find interpretations that align with both their mind and heart. My students’ music-making is therefore rooted in tradition, but colored with personal sensitivity and innovation. I am available for violin instruction (all levels) and piano instruction (beginner to intermediate-advanced). Please contact me below.
I am available for lecture-demonstrations, particularly related to Indian and Western musical interculturality, and understanding of Indian classical music for the Western musician. (In this video, given in Mysore, India, the introduction and closing points are in the Kannada language, but main lecture is in English.)
